Pixel Animator
Pixel Display Workshop
The entry-level kit: young children build their own pixel display without soldering and create their first animations.
Description
The Pixel Animator is a digital drawing kit that is easy to assemble and gives children a first look into the world of digital art, more specifically pixel art and animation.
It can be assembled without soldering, which makes it well suited for children from 7 years old.
In the workshop, children build their own Pixel Animator while learning about its components, followed by an explanation of how to use the device and time to make their own animations.
Looking for something more advanced? The Pixel Animator Colour is its full-colour sibling for ages 9 and up.
Workshop
Structure:
The workshop starts with a demonstration of a fully assembled Pixel Animator.
It is followed by a step-by-step assembly in which the function of each component is explained.
After building the device, participants test all its functions and start exploring drawing on it.
Finally, participants can ask further questions and, if interested, get a look at the code that controls the device.
Goals:
The workshop gives children a first contact with both pixel art and electronic components, and motivates them to explore these subjects in more depth at home.
Everything is designed to be easy to understand, with enough depth to keep exploring without getting boring.
The kit is affordable enough for every participant to take their Pixel Animator home and keep playing with it there.
